Heavy structural damage (large missing chunks of the photo) is partially recoverable — the AI plausibly inpaints the missing area, which is great for context but not for archival accuracy.

Yes. The colorise option assigns historically plausible colours based on millions of training examples — skin tones, fabric, foliage and skies usually look natural. Colours are an artistic interpretation, not a record of the original scene; for academic or museum use, document this in your caption.

Aim for 600 dpi or higher when scanning prints — the more detail in the source, the better the AI's restoration. Even smartphone photos of physical prints work, but tilt and glare degrade the result; shoot flat, in even diffuse light, with no flash.

Restoration is conservative on faces — the model removes noise and damage but keeps facial geometry intact. It does not 'beautify' or alter features. If you want a sharper result, run the restored image through our Image Enhancer for a final upscale.

Yes — uploads are encrypted, processed in isolation and deleted within 24 hours. We do not use customer photos for any kind of training. We treat family archives as sensitive content and recommend keeping a backup of the original scan separately, regardless of which tool you use.
